Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

TPR-Anchorman-2

This is going to be a quick review as it is impossible to describe the continuous hilarity that was Anchorman 2! It was a refreshing return to comedy that modern comedies have lost.

The Story gets a +3 as it was not only funny, it was also poignant and an excellent commentary of the ridiculousness of modern news programming. The Look lands a +3 as it was spot on. The Overall Casting …Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner ladies and gentleman (+2)! Sometimes a big cast amounts to New Years Eve and sometimes it amounts to one helluva final brawl! The Commitment to Genre also scores perfect at +2 as it is not only committed, it also pays homage to the art of comedy! What? You heard me.

Subtotal: +10.

Right off the bat, I will carve out a point (-1) because of a Ghostbusters reference. This film is set in 1980 and it would still be 4 years before anyone declared that they weren’t afraid of no ghosts! I feel a little bad but Bill picked up on this and he’s right, it can’t be excused.

Having said that, the additional points are going to be so numerous that I think we all know where this is going…

I’ll award a point each for: the Chicken of the cave, the kittens, the I hate Mondays, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays HAHAHAHAHAHAH, the Winnebago with the deep-fryer, bowling balls and scorpions, the condom stash, “Nope”, the underwear ad, not to mention…

…and the blindness, the Minotaur, the Were-Hyena (both played by the same actor) and the Canadians. I would also like to congratulate this film for it’s overall height of actors that ensured Tom Cruise did not make a cameo.

Total: +10 and a Panther-Shark.

  1. Perhaps it was the beer, perhaps it was the company; it might even have been the cologne (Sex Panther by Odion – “60 percent of the time, it works every time”), but I’ve not laughed so much and so consistently in a long, long time. The satire is a little obvious, but then how could it not be? The advent of the 24 hrs news cycle has killed real news – now a slow moving car chase is must-watch TV. Having those ideas come from Ron Burgundy (“I’m kind of a big deal”) is comic genius. And then there were all the other bits (many of which Chad has mentioned) that cracked me up – ah, to laugh like a panther-shark again …

“I’m blind! BLIND! You realise you are talking to a man who just this morning tried to brush his teeth with a live lobster?”
